In his book Goals! How to Get Everything You Want – Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2003), sales guru Brian Tracy says that successful people are intensely action-oriented. They typically move fast on opportunities because they are prepared, says Tracy. They do something every day to realize their long-term goals. Tracy shares five ways to start and continue the momentum toward success:
• Pick up the pace. “Move faster from task to task,” says Tracy. “Walk quickly. Develop a higher tempo of activity.”
• Pretend you are leaving. “Work as hard and as fast as you do just before you leave for vacation,” says Tracy.
• Practice right-time planning. “Imagine that you only have half the time available to get the job done, and work with a sense of urgency,” he explains.
• Ask for more. “Continually ask for more responsibility, and when you get it, complete the task quickly and well,” says Tracy. “This one habit will continually open doors of opportunity for you.”
• Add time to your day. Resolve to get up one hour earlier every day, work through lunchtime and coffee breaks, or stay at work an hour later every day.
